Pictured above are 7/8-18" engine lifting eyes I made from a couple of old take-apart C4 spark plug bases. I found two USA forged steel 3/8" threaded lifting eyes at a used tool store, and slightly ground the upper OD to fit net in the spark plug base.
A nut was welded on the bottom of the threaded eye so that the eye can swivel, but cannot come apart. Lastly, a relief was ground through the threads to act as a thread chaser, as well as a vent to relieve compression if turning the crankshaft with the eyes in place.
The number 2 and number 4 spark plug holes are recommended for engine balance points on the end of a chain or cherry picker.
