Cowl Gas Tank Filler Screen

The pic above shows an original A-9020-A threaded style cowl tank (gas tank) filler screen. This is located in the fill opening of the gas tank, and is used as a spark arrestor. This threaded style was used in 1928-29, and again in 1931.

This filter / strainer / spark arrestor screen is the 1930-31 style A-9020-B tabbed screen. This design had a tendency to fatigue the tabs due to forces of sloshing fuel on the screen, and Ford returned to the more robust threaded style in 1931.

The original screens shown here have been refinished with cadmium plating for restoration. Screens were originally terne coated, which is a lead and tin alloy coating.
