Mechanical Fuel Pump

This is the mechanical fuel pump used on 1932-34 Model B and Model 46 Ford. These were made by both Carter and AC for Ford. Most that are found today seem to be AC brand from the late 1930's or newer. Few of the original zinc die castings survived due to the quality of the zinc alloys in 1932. Most later diecastings have a date code on them.

This is the AC Replacement Type 406 Series G. The service part number is 1523406 and is merchandised as a 406. It is AC original number 856253 and has a min/max static fuel pressure of 1-1/2 to 3 psi. It is also known in the service trade as a 6253, which is the last four digits of the part number. This is the correct pump for the 1932-34 Ford. This was also used on Palmer Brothers engines.

There is also another AC Series G, Replacement Type 554, not pictured here. It is AC number 1521396 and has a min/max static fuel pressure of 1-1/2 to 3 psi. It is also known in the service trade as a 1396. This pump was used on a variety of stationary and industrial engines including Climax, Hercules, Delco-Light, and US Motors.

Type 406 Series G. It is AC number 1523406 (original 856253)

Pic above is also Type 406 Series G. Another view showing the mounting bolt pattern.

Dave Renner of Manchester, Michigan is the primary source of high quality rebuild kits and parts for these Model B fuel pumps.
