Transmission Gear Shift Tower

Shown above is an original early 1928 transmission gear shift tower and shift lever assembly. Note that the casting does not have a provision for mounting the emergency brake handle on the front like most 1928-1929, or on the side like 1930-1931 shift towers.

This shifter tower was used on early 1928 Model A's with the emergency brake mounted on the LH cowl panel area.

The picture above shows the shallow bend in the gear shift lever (straighter lever) typical of the 1928-1929 Model A's.

The 1930-1931 transmission gear shift lever has a larger angle bend in it to move the shift knob ball down farther away from the lower cowl and dash.
